How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross price by (1 + VAT rate). At 20%: 120 / 1.20 = 100 net, so VAT is 20.
What is the VAT rate in the UAE (Dubai)?
The UAE standard VAT rate is 5%. Saudi Arabia charges 15%, Bahrain 10% and Oman 5%.
What is the UK VAT rate?
The UK standard rate is 20%, with a reduced rate of 5% (e.g. home energy) and 0% on many foods and children's clothes.
Why can't I just subtract 20% from the gross?
VAT is charged on the net price, so 20% of the gross is too much. Always divide by 1.20 instead.
